Please note that final class placement is at the discretion of the PYB faculty
Pre-Ballet: (Ages 3) These students will learn to listen and follow simple direction and to develop basic motor skills through movement, music and a structured environment. Pre-Ballet will also learn a basic introduction to tap rhythms in a 15-minute session during class time, and will make their own musical instrument for use in class.
Ballet I: (Age 4) A continuation of Pre-Ballet. The students will continue to develop body posture and alignment. They will learn spatial awareness and rhythm. There is 20 minutes of Tap included in the class.
Ballet II: (Age 5) Students will continue to develop body posture and alignment. They will work on the diagonal and centre floor. Spatial awareness and rhythm continue. There is 25 minutes of Tap included in this class.
Ballet III: (Age 6) Students at this level will begin to "put it all together." The rhythm of the music with the technical terms and abilities of the basic ballet steps. Turn out will be introduced. There will also be 20 minutes of Tap included.
Ballet IV: (Age 7) Tap will include learning of routines. Ballet will include barre work, center floor & diagonals.
Ballet V: (Age 8) Technique will be taught as students learn correct barre and center movements such as pirouettes, port de bras, adagio & allegro.
Junior Ballet: (Age 9 by Jan. 1, 2008 - no exceptions for students younger than 9) Students at this level of ballet training will focus on technical strengths. They will learn a complete barre as well as the centre floor movements necessary to prepare for future pointe work.
Intermediate Ballet: (Ages 10 and up) This level is for the more advanced student. It is offered three times per week for those students wishing to study pointe.
Teen/Adult Ballet: (Ages 13 and up) This class is offered for beginning/intermediate students with a desire to learn the basic techniques, terms and music associated with ballet.
Ballet for Children with Special Needs: (Ages 4-7) We will be focusing on basic ballet movements along with activities to improve gross motor control, following directions, and movement games to give the students an opportunity for social interaction. See the flyer for more information. (PDF)
